Clean energy is a term used to describe sources of energy that are considered to be free of harmful emissions to the environment and human health. For example, solar energy and wind energy are considered clean energy sources.

It should not be confused with the term renewable energy: clean energy is a subcategory of renewable energy, which is not necessarily emission-free. For example, pellet, if produced from sustainable forests, is a form of renewable energy, however it cannot be considered clean as it generates CO2 emissions and other pollutants when burned.
