Geoengineering is the discipline that deals with using engineering technologies and sciences to intervene in global environmental systems, in order to mitigate or manage climate change and other environmental issues. This may include techniques such as removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, increasing the Earth’s albedo capacity, manipulating clouds to influence the climate, and creating heat transport systems to increase or decrease the Earth’s temperature. Geoengineering is a rapidly evolving and highly controversial area of research, with supporters believing it could offer solutions to global environmental problems, while others argue it could cause unpredictable and negative consequences.
