Sustainable development is a concept that refers to an economic growth model that takes into account the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is a comprehensive approach that aims to balance economic, social and environmental needs, promoting a long-term sustainable development.

Sustainable development is based on three interconnected pillars: environment, society, and economy. This means that economic activities must be managed responsibly, in order to protect the environment and ensure social well-being.

Sustainable development has been promoted by the United Nations through the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, which includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to address the most pressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change and biodiversity conservation.
